In Praise of You: Behind the Song

One of my favorite passages of Scripture is Ecclesiastes 5:1, 2, and 7. It’s a warning to those who are approaching God. Verse 7 says that God is in heaven and you are on earth, therefore let your words be few. One of my perpetual problems is sticking to few words. My number one concern in writing a blog is to keep it short, don’t let it go on too long. When I taught Bible stories to kids as a teenager, that was always what I got docked for on evaluation: it’s too long. It’s supposed to be twenty minutes. And all the early songs of mine leading up to this one were too wordy. Too many words, I was trying to say too much, and I got to thinking about this, let your words be few, and wondering if I only had a few words, what would I say? What would I say if I could only say one thing. Ironically, at the time, I wasn’t even a believer in Jesus. I had all the facts, but no faith, and by God’s grace I think He let me stumble on the exact thing I’d say if I could only say one thing.

Unfortunately, while the words are few, the places to breathe are fewer, so I need help singing this song. This is Megan, my friend, my duet partner, my prayer warrior, the person I love to sing with most in the world. This song is called “In Praise of You.”
