This is Where the Story Begins: Behind the Song

When Jesus spoke to farmers, He said God is like a farmer sowing the Word of God into a field. When He spoke to shepherds, He said, “I am the Good Shepherd and I lay down my life for the sheep.” And when He spoke to Peter and the other fishermen, He said, “Come to Me and I will make you fishers of men.”

Even though God is infinite, He explains Himself so that finite man can understand Him. But I’m not a fisherman or a shepherd or a farmer. I’m a writer. So when I think of God, I don’t primarily think of Him as the Good Shepherd or the farmer sowing seed. I think of Him, like the Bible says, as the Author and Perfecter of my faith. I think of Him as the great Writer, writing every detail, every character, every plot twist and every tragedy into the story to fulfill His ultimate purpose, the glory of God.

He is writing the greatest story ever, Hisstory, and so when I see a tragedy in the opening chapters of His story, or more specifically, in the opening chapters of my little subplot, I know that the Author and Perfecter of my faith has written that end to make the happily ever after that much sweeter. And He is writing everything towards the greatest happily ever after we will ever know, eternity in heaven with Him. That’s what I think of when I think of God. And that’s what this song is about. It’s called, “This is Where the Story Begins.”
